Kalø Castle Ruin
In the middle ages the Castle of Kalø was the seat of the feudal
lord of the Djursland
area. Today only the ruins are left of the castle. It is the biggest
castle ruin in Denmark
and is definitely worth seeing. It takes approximately 1 hour to get to
the ruin from City
Sleep-In. Transportation and schedules can be found at Travelling Guide
Denmark here:
www.dsb.dk/Rejseplan/bin/query.exe/en?.
Use "Havnegade 20, 8000 Århus C, Århus" in the "from" field
and "kalø slotsruin" in the "to" field.
Samsø/Tunø
In near proximity to Aarhus lie two small islands Samsø and
Tunø. Samsø is the larger
of the two. Both have the unique small island air about them. In the
summertime they
house two musical festivals. For more info:

84km / 52miles - Odense, Denmark
Odense is situated in the very heart of Denmark, famously known for
being the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen. The city dates to
pre-Viking times and is the third-largest city in Denmark. Located on
the island of Funen, an oasis known as the Garden of Denmark, Odense is
named after Odin, the Norse god of war, poetry and wisdom. In the
surroundings of Odense a wide range of castles and manor houses are
still to be found, for instance, Egeskov Castle, continuing the fairy
tales into modern times.
Greatly inspired by the town's "Cultural Father", Hans Christian
Andersen, Odense has a rich cultural life, where art of all kinds and
genres thrives, in theatres, on the streets, in the parks, in the
museums and art galleries. There are orchestral concerts, theatre of
all descriptions, an international film festival, jazz festivals,
international Carl Nielsen Music Competitions,
Flower Festival,exhibitions etc.

The Vikings founded this town at the narrowest point in the fjord.
Their burial site was at Lindholm, which can still be seen today. The
city contains many old buildings from its glory days. Aalborg is still
one of the country's major trade and industrial centres.
There is only a short distance from Aalborg to the mild east coast and
the rougher western coast. Aalborg is a charming city with many shops
and many restaurants in the famed street, "Jomfru Ane Gade".

160km / 99miles - Flensborg, Germany
There are places that are marvellous for shopping. There are places
where you can have
your peace and quiet and at others there is always action. There are
useful places without
much charm and there are enchanting places which are not suitable for
daily life at all.
And - fortunately - there is Flensburg, because Flensburg has a share
of all these
positive aspects.

184km / 114miles - Malmoe, Sweden
Malmö, which once belonged to the Danes, is first mentioned in
writing in the 1170s. It

The city has so much to offer: the sea, the people and the joie de
vivre - Malmö simply
has so much to offer for people of all ages and interests.
